The best time to surf in Morocco is from October to April, when North Atlantic storms send regular northwest swell to the coast around Taghazout and Aghroud. October and March are often the sweet spot: good waves, warm days and fewer people than in midwinter.
That does not mean the rest of the year is off. Summer brings smaller, gentler waves that suit beginners, and the water is at its warmest. Here is what each month looks like, so you can pick the right week for your level.
Morocco surf season at a glance
Water and air temperatures below are monthly averages for the Agadir coast.
| Month | Waves | Water | Air (day) | Best for |

| February | Peak season, regular NW groundswell | 17°C | 22°C | Intermediate & advanced |
| March | Winter swell continues, often fewer people | 17°C | 23°C | All levels |
| April | Leftover swell in friendlier sizes | 17.5°C | 23°C | All levels |
| May | Less reliable swell; hot desert wind can spoil it | 18.5°C | 24°C | Beginners |
| June | Low season: small, inconsistent waves, more wind | 19.5°C | 25°C | Beginners & longboarders |
| July | Mostly small windswell | 20.5°C | 26°C | Beginners & longboarders |
| August | Mostly small windswell | 21°C | 27°C | Beginners & longboarders |
| September | Easy, summer-like waves; first NW swells | 21.5°C | 26°C | All levels |
| October | Points switch back on, usually manageable | 20.5°C | 26°C | All levels |
| November | Bigger, more regular swell | 19.5°C | 24°C | All levels |
| December | Winter season starts, regular NW swell | 18.5°C | 22°C | Intermediate & advanced |
In short: October to April for the best swell, October and March for good waves with fewer people, and spring, autumn or summer if you are learning.
Winter (December to February): peak season

Winter is when Morocco’s famous points come alive. Storms in the North Atlantic send long-period northwest swell, and offshore winds from the east or southeast often groom the waves in the morning. Anchor Point, Killer Point and Boilers are at their best, and so are the crowds: this is the busiest time in the line-up.
The water is around 17 to 18°C and the days are mild, around 21 to 22°C. Beginners can still surf, but on smaller days and on sheltered beaches.
Spring (March to May): fewer people, friendlier waves
March often still has winter swell, with fewer surfers than in January. By April the swell is usually smaller and easier, which suits intermediates who want waves without the crowds. May is less reliable, and hot winds from the desert can spoil a session.
Summer (June to August): the low season
Summer brings smaller, less consistent waves, mostly windswell, and the wind is a bigger factor on the exposed beaches. It is not the time for big points, but it works well for beginners and longboarders, and the water is at its warmest, around 20 to 21°C. Tamri, north of Aghroud, usually catches more swell than the rest of the coast.
Autumn (September to November): the sweet spot
September still has easy, summer-like waves. In October the points switch back on, usually at a manageable size, which makes it one of the most balanced months of the year. November brings bigger and more regular swell. The weather stays warm, with days around 24 to 26°C.

Whatever your level, our surf lessons in Morocco follow the conditions: instructors choose the safest spot for you each day.
What wetsuit to bring
A 3/2 wetsuit covers most of the year. If you feel the cold, a 4/3 and a hood help in January. Booties are useful on reef spots, not on the beaches. At BIL SURF, a wetsuit and a board are included in every package.
How to avoid the crowds

November to February is the busiest period around Taghazout. Surf early: the wind is usually lighter in the morning and the line-ups are quieter. The spots north of Taghazout, around Aghroud and Tamri, are usually less crowded; see our guide to the surf spots near Taghazout.
